Living in a hotel for a few weeks I see many people coming and going. Mostly young couples from Europe or middle aged Russian couples. Most stay 1 – 2 nights, rarely a week. What strikes me is that hardly anyone can barely open their mouths to greet each other, let alone be interested in getting to know one another. When one passes another on the staircase or the terrace they walk by without a word, the eyes lowered or looking at their phone,. Often I greet extra loud and friendly, back comes usually only a mmhhgoodday. I wonder; Is this disinterest, shyness, arrogance, or just the habit of ignoring others. Are we really going through life with blinders, only considering our own thing?
Or maybe they just don’t want to have anything to do with an old fart like me
