About

this Blog …

… is not the classic travel guide as you know it.

As the name “driftingvagabond” mentions, this blog is about a somewhat unusual life.
With everything I have experienced over the years, I would like to inspire and encourage people to rethink, get out and live life to the fullest.

The purpose is, to help people to get to know and understand mentalities, traditions, customs and habits in different countries.
Also there are plenty tips all around traveling and of course various tales from my repertoire.

The meaning is not to follow a strict path or subject. Mainly the topics are about moving around and living abroad, but also very spontaneous thoughts around the theme that emerge are written down here.

Another reason why I started this Blog is, well yes, I want to record my experiences here in writing, kind of writing a memoir. Not in the classical sense, that is, like in a chronological treatise on life, but quite spontaneously tell stories of my experiences.

Who knows, maybe it’s interesting to some people, or may give joy
to others reading it , or passages of the writing may help some people in certain situations. Anyway this has been on my mind a long time, and now I`m doing it.

…me

Born in tiny Switzerland , traveling has shaped me into the person I am today.

Since my earliest childhood I had the desire to go out and discover the world. Actually, it was more than a desire, it was close to an obsession, always on my mind, and I wanted to talk about it all the time. Until I realized that people could not comprehend my passion, even looked at me in an odd way when I told them, full of enthusiasm, about my dreams and plans. So I stayed quiet and kept my objective to myself until I was old enough to realize it.

And it started when I was 16. My first trip abroad without an adult watching over me was with a friend, we traveled to France by train and spend two weeks on the beach. The following year, a holiday in Spain. With 18 my first trip to Ibiza
My first solo vacation, brought me again to Ibiza. I stayed one month and it was the best time of my live till then. Slowly I started to drift away from home. With 22 I went on my first trip overseas. For eight months I traveled through Mexico, Guatemala and Puerto Rico. After that I was hooked From then on, I was constantly on the move, traveling, working and living in different country’s occasionally returning to Switzerland

Roughly speaking, an unsettled life until today.
